The project brief was simple, but the results were not: vividly hype up the two key product benefits of coloured reflectivity and water repellency for Nikes latest running shoe.
This brand film we created with our friends at Blacklist is part of the launch campaign for Nike Flashpack, a new material technology from Nike that is highly reflective for night running. Visually, it's a fun material to replicate. Instead of simply reflecting white light, it reflects back a spectacular multi-coloured spectrum.
The project brief was simple: to vividly hype up the two key product benefits of coloured reflectivity and water repellency.
The two complicated technical challenges were the Aurora Borealis particle FX and the Liquid splashes. With the Aurora we ended up using a combination of Fume FX / Stoke and Krakatoa to achieve the look. For the liquids, the simulations were created in Realflow and then brought into 3DSMax as BIN sequences for rendering using Vray.

It's always exciting for us to work on projects with Nike. They are a team of talented designers with amazing sensibilities, and they're always interested in pushing the envelope visually. It was awesome to simulate the Aurora Borealis and daydream about it... which, of course, re-invigorated our desire to see it one day for real.
